Abstract
The objectives of this research was to analyze the water mass characteristic of Sugihan Estuary based on oceanographic parameters (current, temperature, salinity) and examined its estuary type. Field data collecting has been conducted in September 2016 by using purposive sampling method at flood period and ebb period condition. The data was analyzed by descriptive comparative. The result showed that the characteristic of water mass was influenced by tidal condition. At flood period condition, the current velocity, highest temperature and salinity were 0.001 m/s – 0.026 m/s, 31.75°C and 32 psu, respectively. At ebb period condition, it was found that the current velocity, the highest temperature and salinity were 0.001 m/s – 0.033 m/s, 30.41°C and 32 psu, respectively. Based on salinity distribution, the Sugihan Estuary was categorized as well mixed estuary type.
