Abstract

This research is done to know the influence of adhesive type for coal briquette quality. For this research i use three option of adhesive namely sago flour, cornice compound and tapioca. The method used in this study is to analyze several samples in the laboratory by performing a series of tests. Some tests include, compressive strength test, and burning test. The research was conducted using 3 different type of adhesive, namely sago flour, cornice compound and tapioca. Each variant has the same percentage of semicocate and adhesive composition as 3% adhesive of the raw material amount, as well as the same grain size of 60 mesh. Based on the results of the study it was found that the average compressive strength of sago flour was 55.4 kg, for cornices 7.0 kg and tapioca ingredients 47 kg. On the fuel test, the initial ignition time of briquettes with tapioca adhesive was 27 minutes, sago flour 37 minutes, and cornice a compound of 32 minutes. At the time of combustion produced 330 minutes for tapioca adhesive, 210 minutes for sago flour briquettes, and for cornice adhesive 270 minutes compound. Whereas for the highest temperature 810o for adhesive sago starch, 763o for cornice compound adhesive, and 679o for tapioca adhesive.Based on the research that has been done shows that the tapioca adhesive briquettes produce the most optimal ignition and combustion quality and do not emit a lot of smoke and stinging smell during the combustion process. The highest temperature and hardness are produced by briquettes with adhesive types of sago flour.
