Abstract

Mosaic disease caused by Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV) is a major disease in chili plantations and is reported to be widespread in Indonesia. One of the alternative to control the virus is use of endophytic fungi in mutualism symbiosis with host plants, and applied by seed biopriming treatment on Capsicum annuum curly red chilli plants against mosaic disease growth and attack. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of biopriming chilli seeds using endophytic fungal liquid culture on mosaic disease and growth of curly red chili plants. The study was conducted by experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experiment consisted of 9 liquid culture treatments of endophytic fungal isolates, 1 control / water treatment, and 3 replications. Tests on sprouts used 40 chilli seeds. Tests on seedlings used 12 chilli seeds each repetition. Test variables on germination are percentage of germination, maximum growth potential, vigor index, and growth simultaneity. Variable testing on seed is the time symptoms appear, the percentage of diseased leaves, disease severity, plant height and canopy area. Identification of endophytic fungi in the roots of chili showed that the local variety of C. annuum curly red chili found 9 types of endophytic fungi. Seed priming using endophytic fungal liquid culture all treatments did not affect the germination variable. In seedling seed priming treatments using Culvularia and Colletotrichum endophytes increase plant height, Unidentified endophytic fungi can increase canopy area, Fusarium and Botrytis endophytic are able to inhibit the development of mosaic diseases
