Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the diversity of some quantitative and qualitative characters of the F3 generation progeny resulting from crossing of cayenne chili with curly chili in an effort to obtain superior variety and potential to be used as parent material. The research was carried out at the Experimental Garden Sriwijaya University Indralaya in May 2018 to December 2018. This research used 4 progenies which were selfing results on the F2 from the crossing of cayenne chili with curly chili as planting material. Observations were made on all plants of each progeny, using morphological characteristics as a marker of diversity. The morphological characteristics consisted of quantitative characters such as plant height, flowering age, harvest age, fruit length, fruit diameter, yield per plant, and average fruit weight, and qualitative characters such as branching type, flower position, fruit position, fruit shape and ripe fruit color. The results of this research indicate that the plants of each progeny have diversity in each quantitative and qualitative characters observed.
