Abstract

Background: Diabetes is a chronic disease, which occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. The diagnosis of diabetes mellitus is based on the identification of chronic hyperglycemia. diabetes is indicated when fasting plasma glucose (FPG) values are more or equal to 7 mmol / L. About 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are proven to be obese or overweight, and the risk of diabetes increases progressively as indicated by body mass index (BMI). Obesity and hypertriglyceridemia are significant neuropathic risk factors. this study aims to conducted to determine the correlation of BMI and HbA1c dosage to diabetic neuropathy on type 2 DM patient on Dr. Mohammad Hoesin central hospital Palembang 2017-2018. Methods: This study was an observational descriptive approach. The sample of this study are Medical records of Type 2 DM patients which fulfilled the criteria of inclusion and exclusion at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin central hospital palembang. Results: From 28 patients, found that patients suffer from complications of Diabetic Neuropathy as many as 7 people (25%), there are 15 people (53.6%) 45-55 years old age group, 8 people (28.6%) 56-65 years old age group, 5 people (17.9% ) age group> 65 years, Patients suffering from type 2 diabetes which suffered the most by men as many as 18 people (64.3%), there were 15 patients with uncontrolled HbA1c levels, and 17 people (60.7% ) Normal BMI class. There was no correlation between BMI and HbA1c levels with diabetic neuropathy in type 2 DM patients. Conclusion: there was no correlation between BMI and HbA1c levels with diabetic neuropathy in type 2 DM patients on Dr. Mohammad Hoesin central hospital Palembang 2017-2018.
