Abstract
Ant Colony Optimization (ACO)-based routing protocols are very good at searching routes so it is compatible for using on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which has limited energy characteristics. So that low energy consumption is needed to extend the life of WSN. By utilizing collision accident which is difficult to avoid so that it can reduce the network’s performance and then makes it as an active - sleep scheduling that can improve the energy efficiency of WSN. This research proposes an ACO-based routing protocol with a collision-based MAC 802.11 that will be compared with the ACO based routing protocol with MAC 802.11 on WSN in terms of energy efficiency. And test the parameter value α that affects WSN’s performance using the ACO-based routing protocol and the collision-based MAC 802.11 with several variant values. The results is obtained that almost all experiment conditions, the ACO-based routing protocol with the collision-based MAC 802.11 have better energy efficiency. While the α value affects the performance of WSN using ACO-based routing protocol with collision-based MAC 802.11 is depending on the network topology type and the number of nodes. The ACO-based routing protocol and the collision-based MAC 802.11 with α value by 0.65 can improve energy efficiency in WSN.
