Abstract

The Differences Level of Depression Between An Elderly Those Who Live In Harapan Kita Nursing Home and In Home With Their Families In Kelurahan Sukamaju Palembang. Depression is mental disorder that is vulnerable to the elderly. Increasing population in the elderly accompanied by an increasing number of people with depression in the elderly. The purpose of this study was to determine The Differences Level of Depression between an Elderly Those Who Live in Harapan Kita Nursing Home and in Home with Their Families in Kelurahan Sukamaju Palembang.This study was observational analytic study using cross sectional. The assessment of depression levels in the elderly used the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) Questionnaire. Based on the sociodemographic characteristics, most of the elderly people in the Werdha Harapan Kita Nursing Home are 60-74 years old, women, elementary school graduate, widow, jobless, and in Kelurahan Sukamaju, the highest number are 60-74 years, women, elementary school graduate, marriage, jobless. The level of depression in the Harapan Kita Nursing Home is mild as many as 15 people (42.9%) and severe as many as 11 people (31.4%) while in Kelurahan Sukamaju is normal or not depressed as many as 23 people (65.7% ) and no one has severe depression. There is a significant difference of level of depression between an elderly those who live at Harapan Kita Nursing Home and at home with their families in Keluharan Sukamaju Palembang with a value (p = 0.00) or p value <0.05.
