Abstract
Surveys from May 2003 to January 2004 at South Sumatera were conducted to identify the Diamondback Moth (DBM) parasitoid species, and to evaluate abundance of the parasitoids. The eggs, and the larvae were collected weekly from brassicaceous crops for recording the level of the abundance and parasitism. The laboratory observation was carried out to identify parasitoid species found on the crops and to determine the Plutella xylostella parasitism by the parasitoids. Our surveys yielded five species of hymenopteran parasitoids associated with P. xylostella. The parasitoids found including Trichogrammatoidea cojuangcoi Nagaraja, Cotesia plutellae (Kurdj.), Diadegma semiclausum Hellen, Tetrastichus sokalowskii Kurdj., and Tetrastichus sp. The first species parasitized egg of the DBM, and the rest ones parasitized the DBM larvae. The parasitism by the egg parasitoid reached 79.26% %. The parasitism by C. plutellae (Kurdj.), D. semiclausum Hellen, T. sokalowskii Kurdj., and Tetrastichus sp. reached 90.00, 82.26, 18.18, and 44.12%, respectively. In highland areas, T. cojuangcoi and D. semiclausum were more abundance than the other parasitoids, but in lowland the most abundance parasitoid found was C. plutellae. Thus, T. cojuangcoi, D. semiclausum, and C. plutellae could be used as biocontrol agents of P. xylostella.
