Abstract

The level of consumption of vegetables and fruits in South Sumatra is in the third rank as low as 96.9% with the percentage of population aged 10 years and above with a habit of eating less vegetables and fruits at 93.6%. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between individual characteristics, parents and the environment with the consumption of vegetables and fruits in SDN 1 and SDN 2 Tanjung Alai. This research used the cross sectional design. Research samples were adult 55 respondents in SDN 1 and SDN 2 Tanjung Alai using sample random techniques. The results of univariate analysis of less vegetable and fruit consumption of SD 1 and 2 in Tanjung Alai were 69.1%. The results of bivariate analysis (Chi-square test) showed that of the 8 independent variables, there were 4 of them that had a relationship with vegetable and fruit consumption, preference (p-value= 0.049), attitude (p-value= 0.001), role and parental support (p-value= 0.016) and(p-value= 0.021), but there is no relationship there are 4 variables gender (p-value= 0.311), education (p-value= 0.066), availability of vegetables and fruit at home (p-value= 0.786) the role of peers (p-value= 0.962). It was concluded consumption of vegetables and fruits of elementary school children is influenced by preferences, attitudes, parental roles and parental support. It is recommended for parents to increase vegetable preferences in children, especially for children who still do not like vegetable.
