Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most common disease which generally occurs in elderly, but unfortunately it can also occur in children and adolescents. One of the causes of hypertension is obesity, which closely related to nutrition problems in adolescents. Hypertension in adolescents is believed as a complicating factor in adulthood. The possibility of adolescents with high nutritional status or obesity can increase the incident rate of hypertension. Therefore, the author interested in conducting this study to determine the relationship between nutritional status and hypertension of adolescents in Palembang. Method: This study was done using analytical observational with cross sectional design. Data were obtained from 515 samples which meet the criteria inclusion by measuring Body Weight, Height, Blood Pressure, and Questionnaire at one time, then analyzed using chi-square statistical test. Result: The results of chi-square analysis showed a relationship between nutritional status and hypertension of adolescents in Palembang (p = 0,036). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nutritional status and hypertension of adolescents in Palembang. Keywords: Nutritional Status, Hypertension, Adolescents, Palembang
