Abstract

Background. Elderly is someone who reaches the age above 60 years old. Globally the elderly population will be expected to increase. Many factors affect the aging process, including genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factor that are associated with the increasing number of health problem in elderly. The aims of this study was to find out the description of the disease on Elderly Hospitalized Patient in Dr. Mohammad Husein Hospital Palembang for the period of 2016-2018. Method. Quantitative descriptive observational study was conducted at Dr. Mohammad Husein Hospital Palembang in August to September 2019. The sample of this study was the medical record of elderly patients in the period of 2016-2018 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data was obtained by taking the data of patient status on medical record. Result. In the study, 119 data were obtained that met the inclusion and exclusion criteriar. The most infectious diseases in the elderly are pneumonia by 6 people (5%) and tuberculosis by 6 people (5%). The most degenerative diseases in the elderly are malignancies of 47 people (39,5%), coronary heart disease by 25 people (21%), diabetes mellitus by 26 people (21.67) , isolated systolic hypertension by 22 people (18,5%, and CKD of 15 people (12.6%). The most geriatric syndromes in the elderly are malnutrition by 6 people (5%), decubitus ulcers by 4 people (3.4%), and incontinence by 1 person (0.8%). Conclusion. The most common diseases suffered by the elderly are degenerative disease, which is malignancy then followed by coronary heart disease.
