Abstract

Background: Scabies is a skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei varietas hominis. The predisposing factors of scabies in orphanage are crowded spaces, sharing goods, lack of hygiene, and slight of knowledge about scabies. This study aims to determine the correlation between knowledge, attitude, and behavior (habit) of the orphans with scabies infection in Subulussalam orphanage and Darul Aitam orphanage. Method: This study was cross-sectional study that was conducted during Agustus 2019. The samples were taken from all of the orphans (93 children) who stayed in Subulussalam orphanage and Darul Aitam orphanage. Data were collected by questionnaires and clinical diagnosis of scabies was established by the presence of at least 2 from 4 cardinal signs. Data were analyzed using chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Result: The prevalence of scabies in Subulussalam orphanage and Darul Aitam orphanage is 38,7% (36 respondents) which based on the cardinal signs. Statistic test shows probability score for correlation of knowledge, attitude, and behavior with scabies incidence were 0.003 (p < 0.05), 0.041 (p < 0.05), and 0.002 (p<0.05). Conclusion: There were correlation of knowledge, attitude, and behavior (habit) with prevalence of scabies.
