Abstract

Human immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that weakens the immune system so that it can damage or destroy the function of cells that have CD4 surface antigens, especially T lymphocyte cells that regulate and maintain the immune system. People who has history of free sexual behavior, contact with HIV infection and intravenous drug abuse is included as a high risk people. This research was aimed to find out the prevalence and risk factors of HIV infection in pregnancy at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This type of research was an observational analytic with cross sectional design that used medical records as secondary data. Data were recorded and observed from medical records and then data were analyzed using chi square test. The medical records data by considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria was 30 data from 41 medical records data at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang within periode September 1st 2015 – August 31th 2019. The prevalence of HIV infection in pregnancy within period September1st 2015 – August 31th 2019 was 0,5% with an increase in the last 4 years. Based on the result of a bivariate analysis, the results showed sociodemographic characteristics namely gestational age, that have a significant association with the occurrence of HIV infection and history of partners and sexual behavior as risk factors for transmission of HIV infection in pregnant women.There is a significant association between risk factors history of partners and sexual behavior with HIV infection in pregnant women and there is no significant association between history or contact with family infected with HIV and intravenous drug abuse with HIV infection in pregnant women.
