Abstract

Early onset of neonatal sepsis means that sepsis arises within the first 72 hours of life. The infection occurs vertically due to illnesses suffered by the mother during labor or the birth process. Factors that influence the occur of the early onset of neonatal sepsis are divided into 2 such as risk factors from mother and neonates. The problem that is often faced by patients with neonatal sepsis is a high mortality and morbidity rate, because the diagnosis is difficult to establish. One of the most effective way to reduce the incidence of neonatal sepsis is administering intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxic. However, recent research suggests that intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxic such as ampicillin can increase the incidence of neonatal sepsis caused by gram-negative and antibiotic resistance in neonates. This type of research was observational analytic with case control design. Subjects in this study were 140 patients in RSMH with medical record, 70 as case groups and 70 as control groups that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of this study indicate that there was a significant relationship between the administration of intrapartum prophylaxic antibiotics with the incidence of neonatal sepsis p = 0.005 (p value <0.05), more in males (64.3%), have normal body weight (80% ), preterm (52.9%) and cesarean delivery (55.7%) The relationship of intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxic administration with the incidence of early onset of neonatal sepsis has a significant relationship P Value = 0.005 and based on a large risk analysis, obtained odd ratio = 0.360 means that the administration of intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxic can reduce the risk of no neonatal sepsis.
