Abstract

Background: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by dengue virus. To overcome DHF, it is necessary to treat larvae using natural larvicides, namely extracts of natural leaves of alamanda (Allamanda cathartica L.). The purpose of this study was to study the extract of alamanda leaves as larvicides against larvae of Aedes aegypti instar III. Methods: This research is an experimental study using a post test only controlled group design that was conducted in August 2019. The object of this study was larvae Ae. aegypti instar III. This study used five concentrations of alamanda leaf extract, 0.125%; 0.25%; 0.5%; 1%; 2%, positive control and negative control. The results obtained were analyzed using the One Way Anova test, Post Hoc Test and Probit. Result: The percentage of larval mortality was 31.25% at a concentration of 2%; 15% at a concentration of 1%; 5% at a concentration of 0.5%; 3.75% at concentrations of 0.25% and 0.125%, 100% in positive controls and 0% in negative controls. In the One Way Anova test, it was found that there were significant differences between the treatment groups of Aedes aegypti larvae mortality (p=0,000). In the Post Hoc Test, it was found that there were significant differences in the positive control compared with all concentrations of the extract of the Alamanda leaves (p<0.05). Probit Test shows that the LC50 value is at a concentration of 6.154%. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of alamanda (Allamanda cathartica L.) leaves is not effective against the death of Aedes aegypti larvae.
