Abstract

ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP OF OCCUPATION WITH DSPHONIA AT RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG PERIOD OF JANUARY 2018 – JUNE 2019 (Soviah Naharoh December 2019, 62 page) Sriwijaya University Faculty of Medicine Background: Dysfonia is a change in sound quality in tone and intensity both due to functional and organic disorders, systemic and local abnormalities. The causes of dysphonia can vary in principle regarding the larynx and surrounding organs. The most common causes of dysphonia are generally infections of the throat, usually due to upper respiratory tract infections, benign vocal cord lesions and voice disorders. Some factors that influence the occurrence of dysphonia are age (40.16%), gender (61.7%), professions including in teachers (14.61%), smoking was reported as much as 13.62%, laryngeal abnormalities in the form of vocal cord nodules (17.13%) and other habitual factors in the form of excessive use of voice by 33.53%. Understanding the Professional is a job that requires training and mastery of a particular knowledge and expertise. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. The study sample was taken as many as 95 people from a total of 117 dysphonia patients in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in the January 2018-June 2019 period. Dysfonia variables were analyzed with the Chi Square test to see the relationship with the profession by taking Voice Handicap Index (VHI) data to establish a diagnosis of dysphonia. Results: Of the 95 patients, the highest number of patients were in the Non-Professional Vocal profession with 61 (64.21%) people, most often in men as many as 61 (64.21%) patients with a ratio of 2: 1, the most many were in the age range of 19-65 years with 86 (90.52%) people, 51 smoking habits (53.68%), and having vocal cord tumors with 40 (42.10%) people. Statistical tests showed professional vocals (p = 0.003, OR = 23.242) significantly associated with dysphonia as a risk factor. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the profession and dysphonia. Keywords: profession,VHI, dysphonia
