Abstract

Sepsis as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection that can save lives. One of the sepsis management is giving the specific antibiotics, but the initial treatment is giving broad spectrum antibiotics before there are culture results. The increasing antibiotic resistance happened due to antibiotics that are not on target. The purpose of this study was to study the patterns of bacterial and antibiotic sensitivity in sepsis patients in RSMH Palembang in 2017 and 2018 periods. This descriptive observational study was conducted at RSMH Palembang in October to December 2019. The sample of this study was all the medical record data of sepsis patients that had results positive bacterial blood culture at the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory of Palembang RSMH in January 2017 to December 2018. Data were collected by observation of medical records which were analyzed by univariate analysis. The results showed that of 102 sepsis patients, 24.5% were rejected by Gram positive bacteria. The most common bacteria found were Staphylococcus epidermidis (35.7%), Staphylococcus haemolyticus (24%), and Staphylococcus hominis (21.4%). Antibiotics that are sensitive to Gram-positive bacteria are Linezolid, Nitrofurantoin, and Quinupristin/Dalfopristin.
