Abstract

ABSTRACT THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN PERSONAL HYGIENE WITH INCIDENCE OF SCABIES AMONG CHILDREN AT SUBULUSSALAM AND DARUL AITAM ORPHANAGE PALEMBANG 2019 (Achmad Affaier, Faculty of Medicine Sriwijaya, 97 pages) Background: Scabies is a skin disease that is caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. This diseases is easy to spreading out with direct and indirect contact. Scabies often occurs in areas with high occupancy plus dirty environment. One of the risk factor in contributing to scabies incidences is personal hygiene. This research aim to find out the association between personal hygiene with incidence of scabies among children at Subulussalam orphanage and Darul Aitam orphanage Palembang . Methods: The type of research was analytic correlationwith cross sectional design. This data processed with SPSS program version 23.0. Sample in this research was children live at Subulussalam orphanage and Darul Aitam orphanage Palembang who fullfiled the inclusion criteria. Data were collected by questionnaires for personal hygiene, clinical diagnosis of scabies was done by at least two from four cardinal signs and anamnesis for scabies also physical examination. Result: The prevalence of scabies was 38,7% around and number of samples with bad personal hygiene are 75,0% . The samples that followed this research was 93 children. All of the independent variables have been significantly association to scabies (p<0,05), except hand and nail hygienes also linen and bed hygienes (p>0,05). Then, multivariate analyze has proven that skin hygiene and towel hygiene become protective factor after interacting each other (p<0,05). Conclussion: There is a association between personal hygiene with incidence of scabies among children at Subulussalam orphanage and Darul Aitam orphanage Palembang.
