Abstract

Background.”Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder that is often found in women of reproductive age characterized by hyperandrogenism and chronic anovulation accompanied by exclusion of specific conditions of the adrenal, ovarian or pituitary glands.”The incidence of PCOS in adolescents is estimated to increase every year, this prevalence increases in obesity, insulin resistance.”PCOS is a chronic condition with psychological and reproductive manifestations that usually begins in adolescence and then its manifestations shift with time, including subfertility/infertility and increased metabolic complications.”Obesity increases the clinical risk for PCOS. In some studies SOPK is believed to be a familial disorder. PCOS inheritance is also believed to be multifactorial. Therefore, this study is very important to know the relationship between BMI and family history with PCOS in adolescents aged 15-19 years in the city of Palembang.” Method.”This study was an observational descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional study design, the data taken was primary data to determine the relationship of BMI and Family History with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in adolescent girls aged 15-19 years in Palembang City.”Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique by filling in using a questionnaire and hirsutism examination.” Result.”A total of 150 study samples, 38 samples (25,7%) were obtained with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).”Of the 38 samples with PCOS, there were 9 (18.4%) with a family history, 5 (27.8%) samples with a LBW history, 23 (36.7%) samples with a BMI ≥ 23.” Conclusion.”There is a significant relationship between excess BMI (Body Mass Index) with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in adolescents aged 15-19 years in Palembang City
