Abstract

The environment in the palm oil industry sector generally produces dust particles (PM10). Inhaled dust can cause health complaints, especially in the respiratory tract. Complaints experienced can develop into lung function disorders if workers are exposed to dust for a long time. The purpose of this study was to analyze the subjective complaints of respiratory disorders in factory workers at PT. Golden Blossom Sumatra (GBS) in the Pali Regency region in 2018. This study used a cross sectional design. The sample in this study was 33 workers who worked in the production division at PT Golden Blossom Sumatera (GBS), which were selected based on the total sampling method. Data analysis was univariate and bivariate using the chi square test. The results showed that the majority of workers who experienced respiratory subjective complaints were 17 workers 51.5%, while workers who did not experience subjective complaints of breathing were 16 workers 48.5%. The results of bivariate analysis showed that the variables related to the incidence of subjective complaints of respiratory disorders were PM10 dust variables (p-value = <0.039), years of work (p-value = 0.019), smoking habits (p-value = <0.004), use ( PPE) (p-value = <0.001). The age variable (p-value = <0.149) is not related to subjective complaints of respiratory distress. It is recommended that factory workers pay more attention to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), especially masks related to workers' breathing.
