Abstract

This research purposed to knowing awareness, motives, and meaning Minangkabau tribe people in Kelurahan Pipa Reja against Merantau tradition in Palembang city. To analyze the problem then used the theory of Phenomenology Alfred schutz. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research with case study strategy. The location of the study was conducted at kelurahan Pipa Reja kecamatan Kemuning Palembang city. In this study the informant was determined by using the principle of snowball, ie to filter out informants by way of researchers taking someone as an initial informant, then the informant was asked to point again the person who could be interviewed, so and so on. Data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interview and documentation. Data analysis technique used in this research is taxonomic analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that the awareness of past experiences and motives because and their goals malakukan migrate to the city of Palembang affect the formation of the meaning itself. Strengthening social cohesion especially Minangkabau migrants living in Kelurahan Pipa Reja. Then the Minangkabau tribe also interpreted it as part of their identity of their identity which they must be responsible. Because for them doing the tradition of Merantau they will have an appreciation from people in their hometown.
