Abstract
The study examinates the “ the potential use of swamps for farming development in meeting the needs of family life in Mulia Sari village, Banyuasin district”. The purpose of this research is to know family needs in life Mulia Sari village. The method used in this research is descriptove qualitative research method, while the number of informants in this study as many 8 informants. Technique of data collection is done by the observation, interview, and documentation. This study use the potential use of swamps theory of Haryono, et al. The result of the study foudd that potential use of swamps by extending the land before planting using both traditional and modern tools. in the use of swamps occur in two seasons, namely if the rainy season farmers grow rice while in the dry season farmers grow corn and watermelon. the use of swamp land which is carried out in order to meet the living needs of farm families, while the factors that constrain the potential use of swamps for the development of farming in meeting the needs of family life in Mulia Sari village Banyuasin district are natural factors such as weather and pests, the lack of knowledge of farmers related to agricultural technology, insufficient living needs, there is no role of government in the use of swamps.
