Abstract

Copper is an easy to obtain metal and very useful for a variety of industrial applications due to its good thermal conductivity and heat properties. One of the material innovations that is still being developed is metal foam. Metal foam is a cellular structure made of solid metal where the structure contains mostly pores. The purpose of this research is to study and analyze the optimal composition and sintering temperature and to analyze the effect of variations in sintering parameters on porous copper. The method used in this study is the powder metallurgy method with a variety composition of foaming agent, the drying process at a temperature of 160ºC and sintering with temperature variations of 750ºC, 800ºC and 850ºC. Foaming agent used in this reaserch are egg yolk to form pores in copper matix. From the test results the most optimal variation in composition and sintering temperature is at a variation of 1: 1.25 with a temperature of 800ºC and a heat rate of 10ºC / min, with porosity of 85.62% and a maximum compressive strength of 0.03 MPa, the structure formed produces between 12.55 μm to 288.3 μm. The elements and composition that appear in porous copper are copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) with compositions of 99.95% and 0.033%, with crystalline particle size (D) of 0.55 nm. The lowest density obtained reached 1.21 g/cm3 and the shrinkage that occurred for all variations between 16.51% to 39.26%.
