Abstract
Phytoplankton and zooplankton are one of the natural food. The most widely used natural food for seeding is ordo Cladocera, species Diaphanosoma sp. Cladocera is the most frequently used genus given that it has small size, fast growth, easy cultivation, susceptibility to predation, and high enzymes and nutrients. The purpose of this research was to examine the impacts of phytoplankton feeding (Tetraselmis sp., Porphyridium sp., and Chaetoceros sp.) towards population density and growth rate of Diaphanosoma sp. This research used laboratory experimental method with 3 treatments and 5 repetitions. The treatments used three types of phytoplankton food, which were Tetraselmis sp., Porphyridium sp., and Chaetoceros sp. The results of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) towards population density and growth rate showed that there were effects among treatments. Further test using LSD showed that Tetraselmis sp. feeding gave the best impacts to population density and growth rate of Diaphanosoma sp. with maximum density 608 individual/liter, whereas the growth rate was 61 individual/liter/day.
