Abstract

Rubber plants have been cultivated in Indonesia since the colonial era. Soil physical properties are one of the factors that influence the growth of rubber plants. The purpose of this study was to examine several soil physical properties in the form of color, texture, water content, total density and pore space of the soil in the smallholders rubber plantation in Payaraman Village. This research was conducted at the location of the smallholders rubber plantation in Payaraman Village. The study was conducted from December 2018 - January 2019. Soil samples were obtained from rubber plantations in Payaraman Village. The method used is a detailed level survey method that refers to a 1: 5000 scale map with an area of research is ± 5 hectares. One sample point represents an area of ± 1 hectare, so it is divided into 5 sample points marked T1, T2, T3, until T5. The soil color of rubber plants aged 8 years and 10 years has a dark yellowish brown soil color at a depth of 0-30 cm, and has a yellowish brown soil color at a depth of 30-60 cm. The soil texture at the study site is sandy clay loam and sandy clay. The highest level of field capacity is 46% and the lowest is 27%. The lowest soil density is 1,11 g/cm3 with 58% pore space, and the highest soil density is 1,57 g/cm3 with 40% pore space. The physical properties of the soil at the research location basically have a good influence on the growth and development of rubber plants.
