Abstract

Background :Headache is the most common health disorder. One risk factor is the use of a smartphone so that primary headaches are also found in college students. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of smartphone use and smartphone usage (duration of smartphone use, frequency of smartphone use, smartphone ownership duration, and smartphone brands with primary headaches in Sriwijaya University doctor education class of 2017-2018. Method : This cross sectional study used 464 subjects. Respondents’ characteristics, headache data, data of smartphone usage and its level were obtained from questionnaire distribution. Results: Of 263 subjects who entered the iclusion criteria, 57.4% had headaches and 42.6% had no headaches. From the measurement data of smartphone usage level, 51% experience dependency and 20.2% of students are not dependent on smartphone. It was found that there was no relationship between smartphone usage level, frequency of smartphone usage, duration of smartphone use, and smartphone ownership duration with headaches but there was a relationship between smartphone brands with headaches. Conclusion: There is no relationship between the level of smartphone use with primary headaches but there is a relationship between smartphone brands with headaches in college students.
