Abstract
Introduction: In developing countries, one of the problems in growth is short stature. The cause of short stature can be normal or pathological, this can be influenced by ethnicity, genetic, hormonal, psychosocial, nutrition, chronic diseases, and other environmental factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of social factors with stature in children aged 3-5 years in the city of Palembang. Method: This type of research is analytical research with cross sectional research design. The population that was the subject of this study is children after 3-5 years in several kindergartens in Palembang City who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Samples were taken by clustering techniques and random sampling by direct measurement and using a questionnaire. Result: From 250 subjects, children with normal stature (88,8%), short stature (8,8%) and tall stature (2,4%). After the Man Whitnney and Kruskall Wallis test, variables that have p <0.05 are gender, birth weight, length of birth, father's occupation, father's education, father's income, mother's education, mother's income, mother's income, gestational age , and parity. After a logistic regression test, the length variable of birth weight is the variable most related to stature. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the characteristics of the child (gender, birth weight, and birth length); history of maternal pregnancy (gestational age and parity); socioeconomic character (parent's occupation, parental education, and parental income) with stature.
