Abstract

Blacksmith was one of the informal industries which had physical danger in the form of hot work climate on it. Work in the workplace with hot work climate can caused interference with health and safety. Fatigue due to heat was a form of workplace climate response of the body against losing a lot of fluid and electrolyte salts. Impact of fatigue could lower the performance and productivity of workers. This research aimed to analyze the correlation between hot work climate, age, nutritional status, duration of work, work load and heat strain against fatigue. Cross sectional design was used as the methods in this study. The sample of this reseach was 48 forgers in Tanjung Laut Village that chosen by simple random sampling. Hot climate measurement by used Thermal Environment Monitor Quest Temp° 36 on forgers in Tanjung Laut Village showed that maximum temperature 31.9°C and minimum temperature 29.0°C. Spearman correlation test analysis results indicated that hot work climate (p = 0.000), age (p=0.0001), workload (p=0.000) and heat strain (p=0.033) had correlation with fatigue. And there was no correlation between nutritional status (p=0.536) and duration of work (p=0.943) against fatigue. The forgers were recommended to do warm-up or muscles stretching and drink lots of water and electrolyte fluid. Keywords : Blacksmith, Fatigue, Hot work climate Bibliography : 84 (1986 – 2018)
