Abstract

Mimba leaves (Azadirachta indica Juss.) Is one of the plants that have been used by the community as a medicine including antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, potentially as an antibacterial and can reduce blood glucose levels. The results of chemical examination showed that mimba (Azadirachta indica Juss.) Leaves contain alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, essential oils, saponins and tannins. In this study an acute toxicity test for mimba leaves on Wistar strain male white rats was carried out using the fixed dose method. Scientific research regarding toxicity testing is important for the safe use of mimba leaves as medicine. Ethanol extract of mimba leaves is obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol. The initial dose chosen for the main test is determined from the results obtained in the preliminary test. Based on the preliminary test, a dose of 2000 mg / kgBB was determined as the initial dose for the main test. In the main test the test animals were divided into 2 groups namely the normal control group and the dose group of 2000 mg / kgBB, each of which used 5 animals. Observations on the main test showed that there were no deaths or toxic symptoms in the normal control group and 2000 mg/kgBW dose group. The toxic dose range of ethanol extract of mimba leaves which causes acute toxicity is >2000 mg/kgBW. Ethanol extract of mimba leaves at a dose of 2000 mg/kgBW had no effect on the macroscopic organs of the liver, kidneys, and heart of the test animals. The average level of biochemical parameters in the normal control group was SGOT 102,4±25,890 U/L, SGPT 87,4±17,586 U/L, creatinine 0,68 ±0,109 mg/dL, and ureum 17,8±2,049 mg/dL. While the 2000 mg/kgBW dose group is SGOT 90,6 ±30,680 U/L, SGPT 108±31,248 U/L, creatinine 0,94±0,167 mg/dL, and ureum 27,8±4,266 mg/dL.
