Abstract
1. ABSTRACT: In 17th century, Holland landed in Palembang and broke Keraton Kuto Lamo—a symbol of Kesultanan Palembang Darussalam authority—down. In 1823, Holland rebuilt Keraton?s pieces into Holland Comissary resident. Finished in 1842, Palembang societies called it Rumah Siput. Inculturation first used by Barney in term of religion missionary. With this term as an architecture process foundation, this paper sees Rumah Siput fa\ccade as propaganda tool of Holland: in purpose to be accepted as Keraton Kuto Lamo replacement; and as a legitimation for Holland took over of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I authority. This paper used two methods: Analitical-Descriptive and Comparative. Hypothetically, Rumah Siput had in purpose rebuilt compromisely between Modern-Colonial and Local style. This is could be seen in its roof and stair elements, which are the same with in Rumah Limas Palembang. This could be considered as Kesultanan Palembang existence. Then, Rumah Siput was compared to Masjid Agung Palembang. Which are built at the same time, crushed at the same time, but renovated differently: Masjid Agung wasn?t broke down but expanded and redecored with modern elements. This paper purpose was finding the history behind Rumah Siput fa\ccade; and how inculturation would be able to accommodate Nusantara Architecture ?modernization? by adapting the Traditional Values. Keywords: inculturation, propaganda, culture, modernization, architecture.
