Abstract
The role of peat on degraded land becomes extremely important and valuable, for being the last carbon stocks because of the loss of vegetation due to deforestation and forest fires. This research was conducted in peatlands that have been used for oil palm agro-ecosystem, Ogan Komering Ilir District, South Sumatra. The purpose of the study was to estimate carbon stocks in peatlands. The results showed that the peat depth ranged from 200 to 850 cm, the bulk density between 0.211 to 0.347 g cm-3 and the organic C content of approximately 56.30 -58.31%. The prediction of carbon stock ranged from 1.675,361 ton C ha-1 to 9.055,922 ton C ha-1
