Abstract

This research to incorporated of cinnamon essential oil into a patch. Patch was made by mixing of hidroxy propyl methyl cellulose and chitosan polymer. There were variation of concentration cinnamon oil that incorporated into patch i.e. 12,50μL/mL; 13,15μL/mL; 13,75μL/mL; 14,40μL/mL; 15,00μL/mL; 15,65μL/mL. All of concentration were determined minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Staphylococcus aureus. The measurement of MIC used spectrophotometer UV-visible and obtained MIC at concentration 15,65μL/mL. Based the concentration of MIC were used to make three variation of cinnamon oil volume which incorporated into patch i.e. 313μL, 470μL and 636μL. All of volume variation were determined their antibacterial activity and physical properties. Volume of cinnamon oil were incorporated into patch i.e. 470μL and 636 μL showed strong antibacterial activity with diameter of inhibition zone 20.75mm and 25,55mm. Volume of cinnamon oil was incorporated into patch i.e. 470μL was the best formulation because its physical properties better than volume of cinnamon oil was incorporated into patch i.e. 636μL. The major compound of cinnamon oil patch were measured with GC-MS i.e. benzenepropanal, cinnamaldehyde, cinnamly ester, copaene and coumarin. The minor compounds of cinnamon oil patch i.e. alpha-pinene, camphene, benzaldehyde, D-limonene, eugenol acetat and terpinen-4-ol.
