Abstract

Spirulina platensis is one of marine-based algae that has inherently popular as an antioxidant. Due to the potency of the algae, it is decided that Spirulina platensis could be used as an active ingredients in skincare product formula, which was a semisolid form dosage of gel peel-off mask. This research was conducted to determine whether there is an antiaging and antioxidant activity of Spirulina peel-off gel mask. When conducting the research, the practitioner used Wistar white rat male that were divided into 4 groups, normal control (without treatment), negative control (UV-rays coupled with peel-off gel polymer), postive control (UV-rays coupled with peel-off gel polymer with Vitamin C), and treatment group (Spirulina platensis peel-off gel mask). Gel then being evaluated with several different tests, including organoleptic, homogenity, pH, viscosity, sticking power, washability, spreading power, and stability test. The methode used to test the antioxidant and antiaging ability are in vitro with DPPH and in vivo method using skin observed system that has five parameters to determine antiaging activity; hydration level, collagen level, pigmentation, senstivity and pore blockings. The formula then being tested with DPPH and showed that Spirulina platensis peel-off gel mask has IC50 223,181 µg/mL, while when being tested with in vivo testing, the parameters showed 74,33% for Hydration Level; 88,51% for collagen level; 17,75% for pigmentation; 13,64% for sensitivity test; and 66,58% for pore blockings.
