Abstract

Background: Low back pain is a major ranking disease that causes disabilities at all ages, also the incidence increases with age. A number of previous studies have reported that hydrotherapy has an improved effect on lower back pain and increased flexibility. Therefore, this study discusses the effect of hydrotherapy on pain intensity and flexibility of lumbosacral in low back pain patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This study was a pre-experimental study and have the design of one group pretest-posttest with sample of 35 LBP patients. Inclusion criteria were NPB patients who did not undergo operative action, did not have contraindications underwent hydrotherapy and were >29 years old. Exclusion criteria were patients who were not willing to participate in the study, patients with communication disorders, patients with a history of low back pain due to infection, tumors, and metastases. Subjects were dropped out of the study if they underwent hydrotherapy less than three times or resigned for some reason. Result: There was a decrease in pain intensity from 5,57 to 4,00 (p<0.001) and an increase in lumbosacral flexibility from 48,10 to 48.,73 (p=0,014) in patients undergoing hydrotherapy. Conclusion: There is the effect of hydrotherapy on the decrease in pain intensity and increased lumbosacral flexibility in low back pain patients undergoing hydrotherapy at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.
