Abstract

S. litura armyworm is polyphagic or can live on various types of vegetable plants. One alternative control that can be done to control pests in caisim plants is to use biological control by utilizing B. thuringiensis. Rain physically removes spores and crystals from the target site, reducing the insecticidal activity and residue of B. thuringiensis. The purposes of this study were to study the impact of rain simulation with the application of B. thuringiensis bioinsecticide, and treatment without rain on S. litura larvae and to find out whether the toxicity of B. thuringiensis-based bioinsecticide has a high effect on the mortality of S. litura. This research was arranged in a factorial randomized design with 2 factors, in which the first factor was ten isolates of B. thuringiensis and the second one was application of bioinsecticide. Bioinsecticide treatments were rain simulation and no simulation. The isolates used were isolate collections from the Entomology Laboratory of Plant Pests and Plant Diseases and were refreshed on NGKG media. Bioinsecticide B. thuringiensis prepared media was biourine, 5% molasses, and nutrient broth media (NB). Bioinsecticide was applied by spraying to leaf mustard green with a concentration of 25 ml of bioinsecticide solution and 75 ml of water. Test insects used were 2nd instar of S. litura with 5 larvae /treatment. The highest spore density was found on the SMR4 isolate at 72 hours after shaking (11.23 x 1012 spores/ml). Symptoms of infection was colour change of larvae to darkening color and the body size was shrink. The average of mortality, body of larvae, weight of dung and leaf area eaten by S. litura larvae showed significantly different results between different bioinsecticide treatments as well as rain application.
