Abstract

Red chili and cayenne pepper are widely cultivated varieties. The main problem in the cultivation of chili is the presence of viral diseases that can significantly reduce yield of the crops. One of the ecologically friendly control is by planting bordering crops. The experiment was arranged in a 2 x 3 factorial in a randomized complete block design (FRCBD) with 3 replications. The parameters observed included the incidence of diseases caused by viruses, the intensity of diseases caused by viruses, and the fruit weight. Results showed that variety did not significantly (P >0,05) affect incidence and intensity of viral diseases. From the results, bordering crops significantly affect viral disease incidence (P <0,05) of curly virus disease on chili. The combination of the treatment of cayenne varieties with types of marigold as border crop could reduce the intensity of curly virus disease. The treatment of varieties and bordering crops did not significantly affect the fruit weight. Keywords: Border crops, Viral disease on chili
