Abstract

Swamp waters generally have a low pH content ranging from 3-4. The purpose of this study was to determine the best dose of the use of a combination of lime shells, blood clams, mussels, golden snails and calcite lime to optimize the pH of swamp water and soil, and its effect on the growth and survival of catfish. This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. Treatment were differences in the percentage combination of lime dose: 16.66% lime blood clam shells, 16.67% mussel freshwater shells lime, 16.67% golden apple snail shells lime and 50% calcite lime (P1), 25% blood lime shell chalk , 25% dosage of mussel freshwater shells and 50% calcite lime (P2), 25% blood clam lime shell, 25% gold snail shell lime, and 50% dose of calcite lime (P3), 25% mussel freshwater shells lime, 25% golden apple snail shell lime, and 50% calcite lime (P4) and 33.4% blood clam shell lime, 33.3% mussel freshwater shells and 33.3% golden apple snail shell lime (P5). Each dose of lime used was 7.000 kg.ha-1 equivalent to CaO. The results showed (P2) was the best treatment that was able to optimize the pH of the swamp water from 3.63 to 7.79 and the pH of the soil from 3.63 to 7.76 and resulted in 100% survival, absolute growth of weight 7.98 g, and length 5.55 cm, and feed efficiency 104.39%. Keywords: Catfish, Calcite, Alternative limestone, Liming, Swamp.
