Abstract

Autism is related to disorder of the developmental condition, identified by typical difficulties in social interaction and communication, ability to think and act with flexibility, perception and instrument to the sensual stimuli. Autism has a different and distinctive problem with the behavior of the sufferer. The field of health promotion studies on health education and behavioral science pay great attention to children's development by developing policies and strategies for program efforts for children with disabilities. This aim of this study is to determine the efforts made by teachers in encouraging the autistic children to be independent in activity of daily living (ADL) at Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri Palembang .This study was conducted by descriptive and qualitative approaches.The subjects of this study were four autistic students in therapeutic classes at the Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri Palembang. This study took place in the school of the subject itself. Data collection was done by interviewing the teachers and observing the teacher's efforts in developing the independence of activity of daily living. Results showed that the teacher had made efforts in developing the independence of the activity of daily living (ADL) for autistic children in therapy classes at the Yayasan Bina Autis Mandiri Palembang . The teacher makes his efforts through individual learning programs where in the program there are self-development exercises that can reduce students' dependence on help from others in doing activity of daily living. The teacher has made efforts to develop students' independence in doing activity of daily living, understanding the needs of children and fulfilling the needs or handling of autistic children properly so that the independence of children in carrying out daily living activities can be maximally developed.
