Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in the rate of corrosion in the turning process caused by the use of different coolant variations. This research uses the Experimental method. The research was carried out on the coolant with a ratio of water 1:20, 1:30, 1:40, as well as air conditioning and bottled drinking water, which is used in the straight turning process using ST 37 material. Observations were carried out for 15 days after the turning process. Obtained that turning using coolant 1:20 with a wide spread of corrosion 25 mm2, coolant 1:30 with a wide spread of corrosion 47 mm2, coolant 1:40 with a wide spread of corrosion 59 mm2, air cooling with a wide spread of corrosion 135 mm2, cooling bottled water with a corrosion spread area ​​25 mm2. Bottled drinking water coolers are highly corrosive with a wide spread of corrosion 157 mm2. And the most effective way to prevent the occurrence of the rate of corrosion using coolant 1:20 with a corrosion spread area ​​25 mm2. Keywords: Corrosion, ST 37, Coolant, Effective.
