Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of understanding of student concepts in energy and momentum material and its most dominant misconceptions in the FKIP Physics Education Study Program at Sriwijaya University. This research was conducted in the Physics Education Study Program of FKIP Sriwijaya University in the even semester of 2019, with the research subjects being 42 second semester students because they had taken basic physics courses 2. Data were collected on May 15, 2019. The method used in the study This is a quantitative descriptive method that is describing data in the form of numbers. Retrieval of data in this study used the Energy and Momentum Conceptual Survey (EMCS) test instrument, amounting to 25 multiple choice items. The results showed that the level of understanding of student concepts in energy material and momentum in the Physics Education Study Program of FKIP Sriwijaya University which was in the high category did not exist, the weak category was 9.52% students, and the failure category was 90.47% students. The most dominant misconception in matter of energy and momentum is greater kinetic energy in stopping objects than moving objects, kinetic energy is equal in stopping and moving objects, ball kinetic energy increases by the same amount for the same distance, balls are launched with the greatest angle (the shortest length of the track) having the greatest speed, and the person with the greater mass will have the greatest speed at the bottom of the track.
