Abstract

Abstrak The purposes of this study are 1) to calculate and compare the income of lowland swamp farming based on business scale, 2) to analyze and compare the income of rice farming based on business scale with a level of welfare of farmers, 3) to know and calculate the minimum scale of land area suitable for lowland swamp rice farming. This research was conducted in Sungai Pinang Lagati Village Sungai Pinang District Ogan Ilir Regency. The selection of research locations was done deliberately. Primary data collection at the study site was carried out in November 2019. The method used in this study was the survey method. The technique of taking sample farmers was done by using non-probability sampling techniques with a quota sample type. Data collection techniques using primary data and secondary data. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the average rice farming income obtained by each sample farmer based on the business scale, where the average income was obtained by the large scale rice farmer, amounting to Rp 14.286.520,83. The average income of small-scale, medium-scale and large-scale farmers are respectively 3,53, 8,11 and 20,43 percent of the KHL standard (Decent Living Needs) of the farming family, that small-scale rice farmers, medium-scale businesses, and large-scale businesses have not yet met the decent living needs standard. KHL can be used to calculate the minimum land area where to be able to meet the needs of farmers family life, then the average minimum area of land that must be cultivated by small-scale farmers, medium-scale businesses and large-scale businesses in a row of 2,37 ha, 2,01 ha, and 2,37 ha with the assumption that farmers only work as rice farmers with a cropping index of 100 and use the prevailing KHL in Ogan Ilir Regency.
