Abstract

This research aims to analyze the stress that occurs in the air Inlet pipe of Secondary Reformer tube factory in Ammonia P-IB PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang with CAESAR II application. The plant began its operation in 1993, but the air inlet pipe of Secondary Reformer tube is the first leak in the connection elbow on 20 October 1993, so that the plant should be shut down because of a leak large enough and can lead to greater damage. Numerous attempts of welding and inspection have been made to resolve the issue of which is the Penetrant Test, Ultrasonic, Radiography and test force. But until now, these problems have yet to be resolved. So the necessary analysis of the stress on the pipeline that aims to find out the thickness of the pipe and flexibility needed in the design of the piping system. The result of the analysis of stress application this CAESAR II obtained that the stress that occurs in the pipe does not exceed the Allowable Stress, meaning that the thickness of the pipe used is still safe to use. However, in the analysis of Thermal Load, these piping systems failure, happened because flexibility is not enough to absorb the expansion of the entire piping system. This is one of the causes of the problem of leakage in the elbow connection. So the results of the analysis of this stress then needed a redesign of new piping systems that can meet the expansion of the pipe. Design on the new pipeline will have to adjust to the conditions of the current plant with emphasis on safety, operability, maintenance, access and cost.
