Abstract

Corncob contain hemicellulose and cellulose which have the potential to be processed into glucose which is then fermented to produce bioethanol. In order to be hydrolyzed, high lignin content within corncob must be remove through degradation process. Pretreatment using ozonolysis was carried out and evaluated to obtain optimum condition of lignin degradation.. Bioethanol production process was carried out in three process, pretreatment, hydrolysis and fermentation. Pretreatment corncorb used ozonolysis method. Ozozolysis method is a pretreatment by ozone flowing at a certain time and temperature. Pretreatment was carried out under neutral pH and pH 3 conditions with variations in ozone flow time for 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 minutes to determine the optimum time. The results of pretreatment was hydrolyzed using sulfuric acid and reduced sugar content was analyzed of the resulting, then a fermentation process carried out for 2, 3 and 4 days and HPLC analysis to determine the levels of bioethanol and residual sugar content. The results of the study showed that the optimum ozonolysis conditions in the corncob delignification process were at 100 minutes under pH 3 conditions with hemicelluloses levels of 36%, cellulose 51% and lignin 6%, where the morphologhical structure of corncob after pretreatment has a more coarse structure compared to corncob without pretreatment. Reducing sugar levels corncob after pretreatment obtained at 3.6458%, while the level of bioethanol obtained increased with a maximum level of 0.017% found on day 4 in hydrolysates after pretreatment. It can be concluded that the process of delignification using ozone after 100 minutes gives bioethanol production in accordance with the length of time of fermentation. Citation : 54 (1981-2017) Tongkol jagung memiliki kandungan hemilselulosa dan selulosa yang berpotensi untuk diolah menjadi glukosa yang kemudian difermentasi sehingga menghasilkan bioetanol. Pada hidrolisis, kadar lignin yang tinggi dalam tongkol jagung harus dihilangkan melalui proses degradasi. Pretreatment menggunakan ozonolisis dilakukan dan dievaluasi untuk mendapatkan kondisi optimal degradasi lignin. Proses produksi bioetanol dilakukan dalam tiga tahap yaitu pretreatment, hirolisis dan fermentasi. Tongkol jagung di pretreatment dengan menggunakan metode ozonolisis. Metode ozonolisis merupakan metode pretreatment dengan cara mengalirkan gas ozon pada waktu dan suhu tertentu. Pretreatment dilakukan pada kondisi pH netral dan pH 3 dengan variasi waktu alir ozon selama 20, 40, 60, 80 dan 100 menit untuk mengetahui waktu optimum. Hasil pretreatment dihirdolisis menggunakan asam sulfat dan dilakukan analisis kadar gula reduksi yang dihasilkan, selanjutnya dilakukan proses fermentasi selama 2, 3 dan 4 hari dan dilakukan analisis HPLC untuk mengetahui kadar bioetanol serta kadar gula sisa. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan kondisi optimum ozonolisis pada proses delignifikasi tongkol jagung adalah pada waktu 100 menit di kondisi pH 3 dengan kadar hemiselulosa sebesar 36%, selulosa 51% dan lignin 6%, di mana karakterisai menggunakan SEM didapatkan struktur morfologi dari tongkol jagung setelah pretreatment mempunyai struktur yang lebih kasar dibandingkan dengan tongkol jagung tanpa pretreatment. Kadar gula reduksi yang dihasilkan dari tongkol jagung setelah pretreatment sebesar 3,4798%, sedangkan kadar bioetanol yang didapat semakin meningkat, dengan kadar maksimum sebesar 0,017% yang terdapat dihari ke-4 pada hidrolisat setelah pretreatment. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa proses delignifikasi menggunakan ozon 100 menit memberikan produksi bioetanol tertinggi sesuai dengan lama waktu fermentasi.
