Abstract

ABSTRACT Ombilin Basin is one of the intramontane basins and the development of Paleogens in Western Indonesia. The sedimentary material comes from the mountains and hills surrounding the Ombilin Basin. This caused by the activity of the magmatic arc and the Semangko Fault as the main fault. The research is in the Lima Kaum area, Tanah Datar District, West Sumatra and focused on the Sawahtambang Formation. The research method is to conduct a literature study of the research area, field mapping and analysis of rock cuts to determine the formation process. Based on the results of geological mapping, the research area consists of two rock units consisting of granite basement units (G) which are scattered as much as 25% and sandstone units of the Sawahtambang Formation (Tos) which are scattered as much as 75%. The geomorphic unit of the research area is divided into Sloping-Sloping High Hills, Flat-Sloping Sloping Hills, Low Plains and Flood Plains. The results of petrographic analysis on the Sawahtambang Formation sandstone show that mesogenesis and teleogenesis regimes have been demonstrated by the presence of silica in the form of silica and iron oxide.
