Abstract

This research is entitled "The Role of Prabowo Subianto Facebook Group as a Facility for Virtual Public Spaces". The group feature found on Facebook is used by Facebook users as a means for virtual discussion without face to face meeting. This study aims to look at the role of Prabowo Subianto Facebook Group as a Facility for Virtual Public Spaces. This research uses qualitative methods with descriptive techniques. The theory used is Virtual Public Space Theory. Which assesses public space through 4 dimensions, namely ease of access, freedom of expression, equality, and legal certainty. The data used in the form of primary data obtained through in-depth interviews conducted by researchers to informants, and secondary data that researchers can based on the results of documentation that researchers get from the research object. On this research, Perpusif method was used as tools. Based on the data that has been analyzed, the results show that in the four dimensions there are still several dimensions that are not in accordance with what has been explained in theory. The four findings of the researcher are as follows, in the first dimension of the researcher's findings are all members have the ease of accessing this group and are in accordance with what has been explained in theory. In the second dimension the researcher's findings are still found things that are not in accordance with what is explained in theory such as the presence of members who use language that is not polite and share information that can not be justified. In the third dimension the researcher found is that there is no special treatment among members and this is in accordance with what has been explained in theory. And on the fourth dimension, the researchers' findings are rules that have not been obeyed by fellow members, which in this case are not in accordance with what has been explained in the theory. Therefore the results of this study indicate that in order to play a role as a virtual public space, facebook groups still have a lot to consider regarding matters that must be in accordance with what has been explained in the theory of virtual public spaces.
