Abstract
A direct suspected factor in influencing of a toddler's nutritional status is infectious diseases and indirect factors is hygiene and poor quality environmental sanitation and family characteristics that help in meeting the needs of children. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the history of infectious diseases and environmental sanitation with the nutritional status of children aged 24-59 months. The design of this study was cross sectional with cluster random sampling technique for the population of children aged 24-59 months and a total sample of 136. Univariate and bivariate data analysis with Chi square statistical test. The results showed that the variables related to nutritional status were a history of diarrhea (p=0.001; OR=2,163; 95%CI=1,421-3,293), hygiene (p=0.001; OR= 2,183; CI= 1,451-3,283), latrine quality (p=0.017; OR=1,911; 95%CI=1,250-2,921), SPAL quality (p=0.008; OR=2,643; CI95%=1,280-5,424), family income (p=0.010; OR=2,382; 95%CI=1,176-4,823) and mother's work (p=0.030; OR=1,841; 95%CI=1,065-3,183). Variables that have no relationship with nutritional status are clean water quality, quality of waste disposal, and mother's education. The conclusion of this study is that infectious disease is a direct factor in the problem of nutritional status and environmental sanitation in the form of latrine quality and SPAL quality is an indirect factor in influencing the nutritional status of children under five. Suggestions from this research is the need to monitor infants affected by malnutrition so as not to become malnourished and improve environmental sanitation in reducing the transmission of various diseases.
