Abstract

Rice is one of the most important food plant, application of biochar and N fertilizer can contribute a good impact on soil quality during the rice growing period. The aim of study was to observe the effect of residue media of biochar briquettes and N fertilizer applications on soil and plant N and growth of rice. The research was started from February to May 2019 at Greenhouse of the Soil Science Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. The experimental treatment arranged in Factorial Completely Randomized Design (RALF) with two replications. The treatment consisted of three biochar briquettes residue levels (0, 10, and 20 ton ha-1), and N fertilizer residue levels were (0, 250, and 500 kg ha-1). The results showed that biochar briquettes residue significantly influenced plant height 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 weeks after transplanting (WAT), the amount of tillers 4 WAT and 5 WAT, and plant N. N Fertilizer residue significantly influenced plant height 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 weeks after transplanting (WAT) and plant N. The best treatment of 10 ton ha-1 biochar briquettes residue and 250 kg ha-1 N fertilizer residue were in increasing the plant height, amount of tillers, and plant N compared to control.
