Abstract
Various ways have been done to reduce the using of mineral oil, which is limited availability, non renewable, and non degraded, thus it can cause environmental pollution. One of the ways that can be done to reduce the using of mineral oil is finding an alternative of liquid insulation it uses vegetable oil, besides unlimited availability, the vegetable oil is also safe and friendly. Therfore, it needs to do an exmine about characteristics of pure coconut oil which is doing the breakdown voltage, viscosity, flash point, water content to know appropriateness of cocount oil as the alternative of subtitute mineral oil in liquid insulation. This research is done in library of Sriwijaya University and Laboratory of Politeknik Akamigas Palembang to exemine pure coconut oil. It needs be done a warming early of 70°C and adds of Z_n O compund concentartion of 0,025% the breakdown voltage value reaches 32 kV, thus it can be said it is worthy as subtitute of oil liquid insulation because it have fulled standard of IEC 60296 value to spesification of new liquid insulation, the highest breakdown voltage in exmine sample is 46 kV by warming of 120°C early then adding concentartion Z_n O of 0,075%.
