Abstract

The incidence of autism in Indonesia is estimated at 2.4 million people with the addition of new persons reaching 500 people / year. Autistic children almost all complain that parents are not independent in their basic ability to do things for themselves. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects communication and behavior. Although autism can be diagnosed at any age, it is said to be a "developmental disorder" because symptoms generally appear in the first two years of life. The purpose of this study was to determine how the level of Independence of Consumption of Eating in Children with Autism at the Autonomous Autonomous Foundation in Palembang. Sampling Techniques in this study were taken using purposive sampling (RJL, JAL, MR) informants in this study amounted to 16 people, Data analysis in this study used content analysis techniques. From the results of the study found the level of independence of eating consumption of autistic children is 1 that is not independent and 2 independent. Factors that influence the level of independence of food consumption are parenting, education, teachers and the environment. The role of the teacher for the independence of autistic children is very important because the teacher teaches formal education and therapy. parenting the most widely diverged to children with autism is permissive and authoritative parenting. Therapy given to children with autism to foster independence eating consumption is occupational terai. The advice given for mothers / caregivers of autistic children is to pay more attention to the child's will and also to be bold enough to the child so that the child can be independent
