Abstract
The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia has risen sharply within 5 years. According to the IDHS 2007 data the maternal mortality rate was 228/100,000 live births and increased to 359/100,000 live births in 2012. WHO in 2010 stated that the maternal mortality rate was caused by complications of pregnancy and childbirth. The prevalence of labor complications based on the IDHS 2007 data was 47% and in 2012 it was 46%. The purpose of this study was to examine the determinats of the incidence of labor complications in Indonesia. This study used a cross sectional design and used secondary data of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) in 2014. The population in this study were women of childbearing age who had married and samples the women of childbearing age who had given birth. The inclusion criteria included women with a single birth in the last 5 years and taken by the last child. Data analysis in this study use complex samples design with univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. In this study using all subjects who met the requirements as many as 3738 respondents. The results showed that the proportion of the incidence of complications was 46.5%. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between maternal age at delivery (p-value = 0.018), parity (p-value <0.0001), birth spacing (p-value <0,0001), visit antenatal care (ANC) ( p-value = 0.032), place of delivery (p-value <0.0001), and pregnancy complications (p-value <0,0001) with complications of labor complications in Indonesia. The most dominant factor in complications of labor in Indonesia was pregnancy complications (PR: 1,547; 95% CI: 1,378-1,737). The results of multivariate analysis state that pregnancy complications are the most dominant factor influencing the incidence of labor complications, it requires early detection of high-risk pregnancies to detect hazards that may arise during pregnancy and before labor.
